North Canterbury Health Hub to be in Rangiora

The Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) is pleased to announce the North Canterbury Health Hub will be located in Rangiora.

Carolyn Gullery, CDHB General Manager Planning and Funding, says the CDHB is grateful to the people of North Canterbury for their input and continuing support during this process.

“Following submissions and feedback from the public meetings, we have a clear mandate from the community, stakeholders and health professionals that we should locate the Hub in Rangiora,” Carolyn says.

“We are confident plans to progress the hub will be fast-tracked. We have appointed project management consultants to progress the Rangiora design along with the design of the Central City Hub.”

Carolyn says it makes sense for the Hub to be in Rangiora - it has the largest population base in North Canterbury and so services will be close for the greatest number of people possible. The Hub will be accessible 24hours a day, seven days a week as part of a network of integrated services.

“CDHB is considering options that could complement the Rangiora-based Hub and ensure services are accessible to North Canterbury people living in more remote areas,” Carolyn says.

“The aim is to have hubs linked so that patient flow is streamlined to provide the right care, in the right place at the right time, by the right person.”

The Rangiora Hub will have an acute care component backed up through telemedicine. There will be close integration between the hubs and Christchurch Hospital via IT systems such as telemedicine and Shared Care Record View (eSCRV). Shared Care Record View ensures key clinical patient information is available where and when it is needed. All the hubs will be linked in with St John Ambulance.

“The connected way North Canterbury hubs work together will provide services that are rewarding and challenging for health professionals, making it an even more attractive area for them to live and work,” Carolyn says.

In addition to acute care, the Rangiora Hub will provide a primary birthing facility, post-natal care, convalescent care, observation beds for acute patients, a St John Ambulance base, outpatient clinics, diagnostics, community mental health services and opportunities for other health-related community services.
