Sovereign Supports Youthline

Sovereign Supports Youthline

Youthline gets $100,000 boost from Sovereign to support young people to successfully move into the next stage of their lives.

Youthline is delighted to announce that Sovereign has donated $100,000 to help it support the wellbeing of young New Zealanders.

The majority of the funding was presented to the long-standing charity last week.

Youthline CEO Stephen Bell said the welcome donation would be used to support the charity with their transitional work with young people.

Youthline works with young people helping them to develop career and education options.

“The partnership with Sovereign means Youthline’s ability to provide wrap-around transition services for young people is enhanced”, explains Bell.

In this work Youthline will be alongside young people who are due to leave school or have just left and support them in a variety of ways until alternative support is no longer required.

Sovereign’s donation is a key part of a new long-term commitment the business is making to foster greater wellbeing and mental health in New Zealand.

“Statistics tell us that almost half of New Zealanders will suffer from a mental illness at some stage of their lives,” says Sovereign CEO Symon Brewis-Weston. “Organisations such as Youthline can help to address issues before they become serious and harmful.

“As New Zealand’s largest life insurer, Sovereign is in the business of protecting the futures and lifestyles of New Zealanders. Through our new community programme we’ve sought partnerships with organisations that complement our goal by creating stronger and healthier communities.

“Every day, Youthline makes a difference in the lives of the young people of New Zealand. We are proud to be able to support their invaluable work.”

Sovereign will also give Youthline practical support, such as making its staff available to volunteer
within the organisation.

As well as its donation to Youthline, Sovereign is working with AUT University to develop New Zealand’s first wellbeing index, and supports Conservation Volunteers New Zealand which recruits volunteers to help support environmental and wildlife projects.

About Youthline

For over 43 years Youthline has been a first point of contact for young people in New Zealand to access a wide range of youth development and support services. Our primary focus is to engage young people and their families - both those seeking support and those that wish to volunteer.

Youthline operates a helpline offering phone, text and email support. In addition we provide or facilitate access to face-to-face counselling, family support, mentoring, volunteer training and personal and leadership development.

Alongside our front-line work we conduct research, inform policy development, run social enterprise projects and partner with schools, community organisations, government and sector agencies.
