Taranaki DHB commended for collaborative approach to hospital rebuild
“Taranaki District Health Board is
to be commended for the excellent way it has worked with
senior doctors on the planning and rebuild of the region’s
base hospital in New Plymouth,” says Ian Powell, Executive
Director of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists
(ASMS).
He was commenting on news the final stages of the $80 million hospital rebuild has begun, with scaffolding going up in the hospital’s main entrance.
“This has been a very big project for everyone involved, including all the staff who work at the hospital, and we have been heartened by the collaboration that has taken place between hospital specialists and DHB Chief Executive Tony Foulkes and his senior management team.”
Providing ongoing opportunities for specialists’ clinical input into the planning and design of the rebuild is essential, says Mr Powell.
“It’s the best way to ensure the redevelopment is sustainable for the long-term and will meet patients’ needs for quality health care.”
