Five individuals and a business to receive Arthritis Awards
At the Arthritis New Zealand Awards function in Christchurch on Friday 21 November, five individuals and one business will be acknowledged for their outstanding contributions to the lives of the 530,000 New Zealanders who are living with arthritis. Arthritis New Zealand Chief Executive Sandra Kirby says their efforts have made a tremendous difference, and their recognition is thoroughly deserved.
Associate Professor Peter Larmer will receive the Premier Award, recognising those diagnosed with arthritis who have been able to achieve goals and act as a role model for others. Peter is a nationally and internationally respected physiotherapist, lecturer, researcher and academic.
International cricket umpire, Billy Bowden and volunteers Lynne McMillan and Adrienne Crowe will all receive the Distinguished Service Award. This award acknowledges volunteers who have made outstanding contributions to the work of Arthritis New Zealand.
Blackmores New Zealand Limited will receive the Business Development Award, which recognises significant contributions that have had a major impact on raising awareness of arthritis. Blackmores has supported Arthritis New Zealand as a true partner in many ways since 2007.
James Lowe, NZ Maori All Black, Chiefs and Tasman Makos rugby player, will be awarded the Young Achiever Award, which identifies the achievements and potential of a young person affected by arthritis. Despite being diagnosed with arthritis as a teenager, James has been an extraordinary ambassador of Arthritis New Zealand
The awards will be presented by Arthritis New Zealand President Alan Henwood.
