Health Excellence Awards Winners 2014 announced
Auckland District Health Board (DHB) presented the winners of its Health Excellence Awards 2014 last night at the Auckland War Memorial Museum’s Event Centre.
The Health Excellence awards (‘the awards’) celebrate the work of Auckland DHB teams and our partner organisations who demonstrate excellence. The awards recognise innovation in health care delivery and cutting edge research which benefits the health and wellbeing of both patients and staff.
The winning entries showed creative thinking around the redesign of patient services, processes and systems, often without additional resources. The award winners showed strong patient-centred outcomes, resulting in reduced waiting times or improved levels of care for our Auckland DHB population.
“It is often small changes that have the biggest impact not only on the quality of what we do, but also to how patients experience our services” said Ailsa Claire, Chief Executive, Auckland District Health Board.
“I continue to be impressed year on year by the high standard of the Health Excellence projects. I would like to congratulate all of our winners, who help to showcase the innovative work going on within our organisation,” added Ailsa.
TV presenter, author and adventurer Kevin Biggar provided an engaging key note speech at the ceremony. He offered inspiration to the audience from his experiences striving for excellence and surmounting challenge over adversity.
The Health Excellence awards are made possible by the generous support of sponsors. This year’s key sponsors were: A+ Trust, Starship Foundation, Spark and Cisco Systems, Buzz Channel and Auckland Academic Health Alliance.

NOTES TO EDITORS:
The Health Excellence Awards invite applications from across our hospitals, primary health organisations and community health partners. Any individual or organisation that works in partnership with the Auckland DHB is eligible to apply.
This year the awards introduced two new categories – Community Health and Wellbeing and Excellence in the Workplace – to highlight and include the valuable work of the DHB's primary care partners and community health organisations. It also wanted to place a spotlight on innovation in workplace design and wellness across the organisation.
