Southern DHB scores very well again in national inpatient experience survey

The results of the second round of the national inpatient experience survey were officially released by the Health Quality Safety Commission today with Southern once again scoring very well.

The survey which is conducted four times a year asks 400 randomly selected patients to answer 20 detailed questions about their recent experience of care.

Southern DHB scores in the following categories were:

Communication: Communicating and sharing information with patients, consumers, carers and families/whanau – score of 8.8 out of 10

Partnership: Encouraging and supporting participation and collaboration in decision making by patients, consumers, carers and families/whanau – score of 8.7 out of 10

Physical and Emotional needs: Treating patients, consumers, carers and families/whānau with dignity and respect and providing the necessary physical and emotional support – score of 8.8 out of 10

Coordination: Coordination, integration and transition of care between clinical and support services across different provider settings –score of 8.6 out of 10

“We’re delighted once again with the results of the survey. It’s wonderful for our highly committed staff to receive such positive feedback and see that their performance is up with the best. In addition the detail of the survey information is valuable for its on-going use in identifying where we could make our patient experience even better,” said Southern DHB Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Leanne Samuel.

Patients are able to fill in the survey online using a computer, tablet or smartphone, or can post their response back to the DHB.

Developed by the Health Quality & Safety Commission, the survey results aims to help DHBs make improvements in care and give the public valuable insights into the performance of their local health services.

The survey responses are anonymous unless patients choose to supply contact details.
