Plunket celebrates rebirth of its Christchurch home base
Four years after Plunket’s Canterbury Area Office was damaged in the February 2011 earthquakes, Plunket’s Christchurch staff and volunteers have a new home-base.
Prime Minister John Key officially opened Plunket’s new Canterbury Plunket Office – Southern Region yesterday, at an event which celebrated the strength and resilience of Christchurch Plunket people in continuing to provide support for local families following the earthquakes.
The new building at 5–7 Twigger Street, Addington will be Plunket’s South Island operations hub, a base from which staff will work to support families in Christchurch and across the South Island. It replaces Plunket’s Area Office on Oxford Terrace, which had served as the charity’s Canterbury HQ since 1922.
“Today’s event is a celebration and reflection of the strength, resilience and dedication our Plunket people have shown since the earthquakes. It is thanks to a strong team of dedicated people that we are here opening this new office,” said Plunket Area President Liz McClure. She extended Plunket’s thanks to the many volunteers and funders involved in the building of the new Southern Region hub.
Plunket’s Chief Executive Jenny Prince said: “The opening of the new building is a big step in the recovery for our Plunket people here in Christchurch. If we go back to the time immediately after the quake, the families of the region were top of mind for our Plunket team, who often put them in front of their own needs. I congratulate the Canterbury Board and Operations teams on the wonderful new operations hub, from which I know there will be some amazing work go in to supporting families.”
Plunket thanks the Prime Minister John
Key for officially opening the building. Plunket is grateful
to the many generous funders who contributed to the new
building, including CEAT, Christchurch Rotary Earthquake
Charitable Trust, KPS, the National Plunket Earthquake Fund
and Canterbury Area Society (volunteer)
funds.
