Bay of Plenty Beca Project Management Team Shines at national RICS Awards 2015
Beca’s Whakatane Hospital project management team is the proud recipient of the Project Management Team of the Year Award. The accolade was announced at the 2015 RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) New Zealand awards evening held in Auckland on 18 May – an event which recognised and showcased outstanding achievement and development in New Zealand’s property industry and built environment.
The judges recognised the team’s exceptional professional expertise in delivering a successful outcome for the Bay of Plenty District Health Board, as well as their effective teamwork and innovation demonstrated throughout the project. Of particular note was Beca’s commitment to deliver value from the strategy by following an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) approach with Fletcher Construction.
“The win is a huge accolade for the team and one we are very proud of,” said Lead Project Manager Mike Groves. “It’s fantastic to be able to offer our clients specialist expertise for a project like this from our Tauranga Office. I’d also like to acknowledge the wider project team and especially our client, the Bay of Plenty District Health Board.
“As project managers we invest a lot of energy into relationship management, which is absolutely critical to success. It makes a huge difference when the client is keen to let you create a collaborative working environment and the whole project team are willing participants.”
Driven by a need to improve the provision of healthcare services for the Eastern Bay of Plenty, the Whakatane Hospital redevelopment project involved relocating the clinical services from an existing building that did not meet the needs of modern healthcare.
“The design brief called for a building that would suit the regional setting, whilst incorporating the key requirements of a modern hospital providing medical, surgical, paediatrics and radiology services” said Mike.
The total project budget for the redevelopment was $55 million.
Now into their sixth year, the RICS Awards have gained a reputation within New Zealand as one of the pre-eminent awards nights for property professionals.
“The number of entries and quality of entrants is a testament to high quality of property and construction professionals across New Zealand,” said Director RICS Oceania Peter Nolan.
