Culture of Death Descends on Parliament

Representatives of the United Nations Population Fund [UNFPA] and the International Planned Parenthood Federation [IPPF] will descend on Parliament next week to attend a meeting of Pacific Members of Parliament. These organisations are at the forefront of the war on women and the international anti-life agenda to promote contraception, sterilisation and abortion. The secretariat for this assembly is the New Zealand Family Planning Association, [FPA]

The UNFPA and IPPF promote worldwide a culture of death under the guise of promoting a “woman’s right to choose”. This is a lie. The UNFPA, IPPF and its affiliate NZFPA, are complicit in the most horrendous human rights abuses against women that the world has ever known. The Chinese Family Planning Association became an affiliate of IPPF in 1983. The IPPF has funded the Chinese Family Planning Association and has cooperated with it in implementing China’s notorious one child family policy with forced abortions and hidden infanticide. The UNFPA collaborates with the Chinese Family Planning Association in 32 counties in China.

China’s one child family policy which started in 1979, has resulted in forced abortions, 196 million compulsory sterilisations, the mandatory insertion of 403 million forced intrauterine devices, punitive fines, imprisonment, destruction of homes and loss of employment. Sex selection abortions have resulted in 37 million missing girls. Officially since 1971 there have been 330 million abortions, in practice there are likely to have been many millions more.Why does the New Zealand government not recognise these horrendous human rights abuses?

The theme of the one day meeting is’ Engaging Boys and Men in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights’ [SRHR] The purpose of this meeting is to persuade the governments of Island nations to accept this agenda. UNFPA is concerned that only 50 per cent of the Pacific population is using contraceptives. Right to Life acknowledges that many Island nations have disturbing rates of teenage pregnancies and STIs. The solution is not promoting promiscuity but promoting abstinence before marriage and faithfulness within marriage. Right to Life recognizes and commends UNFPA for its initiative to meet urgent protection, health and hygiene needs in an emergency. But this does not include abortion. Dignity Kits offer positive reinforcement and support for pregnant and lactating women.

Right to Life is disappointed that our government funds this culture of death by funding the UNFPA and IPPF. In April this year Acting Head of the New Zealand Mission, Mike Ketchen said at a conference in Honiara in the Solomons, “Improved sexual and reproductive health, including access to family planning and sexual health services, is a key area of investment in Pacific health for New Zealand.”The NZ$6 million fund will be managed by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Pacific Sub-Regional Office on behalf of the New Zealand Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade, which will implement the programme in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Governments and civil society organizations of Kiribati, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Tonga and Samoa.

Governments of Pacific Island nations are encouraged by UNFPA to remove legal barriers preventing women and adolescent girls from access to abortion, including revising restrictions within existing abortion laws, and where legal, to seek the decriminalising of abortion.

The New Zealand government also funds the Family Planning Association to promote this agenda in Pacific nations. The FPA as Family Planning International is working to have Pacific nations decriminalise their abortion laws. This goes totally against the cultural and moral beliefs of these island peoples and is being foisted, unwanted upon them.

• Why is the government funding and imposing under the title of Foreign Aid. a culture of death with abortifacient contraception, sterilisation and abortion on our neighbours in the Pacific which is contrary to the dignity of the human person?

• Why does the government not promote a culture of life that recognises the nobility of the human vocation to participate responsibly in God’s plan for creation. A recognition that respects the dignity of the human person, promotes chastity and the sanctity of every human life by upholding the inalienable right to life of every person from conception to natural death?
