First Walk 2 D’Feet MND an “overwhelming success"

First Walk 2 D’Feet Motor Neurone Disease an “overwhelming success”

New Zealand’s first nationwide Walk 2 D’Feet Motor Neurone Disease (MND) has raised more than $50,000 to help the three hundred odd Kiwis currently battling the disease. Approximately 2,500 people participated in six walks held across the country last Sunday, many braving terrible weather to support the cause.

“We are just overwhelmed by the response from New Zealanders in getting behind Walk 2 D’Feet MND,” says Beth Watson, president of MND Association of New Zealand (MND NZ), the small not-for-profit organisation that employs fieldworkers around the country who provide information, advocacy and emotional support to people living with MND.

“The generosity and support from local businesses and communities has been phenomenal. People’s readiness to donate their time, products and services in aid of MND is humbling. There are some big hearts out there. ”

Just as importantly, Walk 2 D’Feet has helped raise awareness of the disease and brought the MND community together in a united show of strength.

“I’m inspired everyday by people living with MND and last Sunday, New Zealand got to see the determination and spirit that we have in the face of this cruel disease. I want to thank our army of walkers for making Walk 2 D’feet an overwhelming success. ”

Half of the funds raised will go to MND NZ to assist with providing its services and the rest will go towards supporting MND research in New Zealand.
