NZCOM Applauds Opening of New Health Hub and Maternity Service
The New Zealand College of Midwives congratulates the Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) on the opening of the Rangiora Health Hub.
Karen Guilliland, Chief Executive Officer of the College of Midwives, says the new hub will provide much needed primary unit beds for maternity services in Canterbury.
“We applaud the vision of this CDHB project and their commitment to the provision of high quality maternity services for the women and babies of Canterbury,” she says.
Guilliland says, “The CDHB Maternity Journey project, which was ‘born’ in 2012, made a commitment to the improvement of the maternity journey for all women in Canterbury. One of the ‘opportunities’ identified was to align women’s needs with the most appropriate level of birthing care to reduce unnecessary birth interventions and the unsustainable demand on beds at Christchurch Women’s Hospital. This new Rangiora primary birthing unit, which midwives and women hope will be followed soon by a new central city primary birthing unit, signifies the value of primary maternity support by the CDHB.”
