Are you parking in the right spot at Taranaki Base Hospital?

Are you parking in the right spot at Taranaki Base Hospital?

Taranaki DHB has recently launched a new parking campaign called ‘Are you parked in the right spot?’ which aims to review and reallocate parking spaces at Taranaki Base Hospital to improve parking for patients and health-related visitors.

Anne Kemp, Taranaki DHB General Manager for Quality & Risk said, “The campaign was introduced as a direct result of feedback from patients and concerns from staff about the difficulties patients face in finding parks to attend health-related appointments.” .

“We take these concerns very seriously. Providing patient and whanau-centred care is our priority and that includes the provision of adequate parking for our patients and health-related visitors now and into the future,” added Ms Kemp.

The campaign focusses on educating staff and the public about parking allocation, as well as the wide range of locations on our campuses where parking is available. Blue-marked car parks are for patients and health-related visitors only. White parks are for all day general parking, which includes staff, patients and all visitors.

Taranaki DHB staff are supportive of the campaign and are actively encouraged to use white-marked car parks on campus and off-site parking on Tukapa Street, David Street and Lorna Street.

Ms Kemp said, “Staff safety and security is very important so while allocated staff parking for those working afternoon shifts is in place, further security measures are being explored. Parking maps are available in the Patients and Visitors section of the Taranaki DHB website and we encourage patients, staff and visitors to look at these prior to visiting our hospitals.”

In preparation for the campaign, a number of improvements have been made. Car parks have been repainted, with additional parks being allocated for patients and health-related visitors. This includes additional Mobility and Parent and Baby car parks.

New signage will soon be installed and a flyer drop on cars parked in patient/health-related visitor car parks has begun and will continue throughout the campaign.
