Christmas comes early for Wellington Free Ambulance
Press release: Christmas comes early for Wellington Free Ambulance
Yesterday a brand-new replacement ambulance took to the streets of Wellington thanks to a generous donation from the Lloyd Morrison Foundation. Wellington Free Ambulance Chief Executive Diana Crossan says the timing is perfect as the service gears up for a busy holiday season ahead.
“We generally get increases in festive season related incidents at this time of year, so a new ambulance carrying the very latest technology is a gift to the crew, and the people they’ll help this summer.”
Special guest at the launch of the new ambulance was Prime Minister Bill English who thanked the Wellington Free Ambulance staff for the work they do every day, and talked about the significant role paramedics have in bringing calm and order to a large-scale emergency.
“Having well trained people in their uniforms makes such a difference,” he said.
He also praised the relationship between Wellington Free Ambulance and the Lloyd Morrison Foundation who are significant supporters of the service, describing it as ‘smart philanthropy in action’.
“It’s good to do something nice, but better when you get a good sense of purpose and can see the difference it actually makes. When there is a long-term future and transparency about it.
“This is something that saves lives, changes lives. That’s what good philanthropy does.”
This is the second ambulance gifted to Wellington Free Ambulance by the Lloyd Morrison Foundation who also fund Heartbeat – a programme that sees Wellington Free Ambulance provide free CPR training to the people of Greater Wellington and the Wairarapa.
