Vatican 'Inquisition' Orders Burning Of Nuns Book

In a Millennium move back to the dark ages which will likely outrage Christians, Jews and Moslems, a Vatican body formerly known as the Inquisition, has ordered copies of a book entitled Women At The Alter to be warehoused or burned.

The "This Is London" newswire yesterday reported that one a Britain's best known nuns who wrote the book in 1993, has left her religious order after being bullied and intimidated by the Vatican body known as the Inquisition.

Dr Lavinia Byrne, 52, a regular voice on Radio 4, has decided to leave the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary and has asked to be dispensed from her vows.

Her decision came after the body now called the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), and formerly known as the Inquisition, also told her to make a public statement backing the papal encyclical Humanae Vitae against contraception and the document restricting the priesthood to men.

The CDF had ordered 1,300 copies of her book in support of women priests to be "warehoused or burned."

Dr Byrne said today: "I wrote the book in 1993 when the issue was completely open to debate. Subsequently the Vatican asked for copies held by a religious order in North America to be warehoused or burned." Acknowledging that the CDF had previously been known as the Inquisition, she said: "Burning books is familiar to them."

Alhough still loyal to her faith she said she "could not go on functioning with my hands tied behind my back."

She had decided to leave the order - which was supporting her - because she was effectively silenced when they (CDF) would not talk to her directly - only through her legitimate superiors.

"They are using techniques that belong to another age. They are behaving like the Inquisition," Dr Byrne said.
