Scoop Opinion: Insults Keep Coming For The Coast

Three strikes and you're out! First it was Helen Clark calling West Coaster's feral and in-bred, secondly it was Young Labour vice-president Jordan Carter calling Coaster's feral bastards. Now, Labour Party president, Bob Harvey, has insulted and marginalised Wellington and the whole of the South Island. John Howard writes.

The Sunday Star-Times over the weekend quoted Labour Party president, Bob Harvey saying Finance Minister, Michael Cullen, is unable to relate to Auckland business people.

Worse, Harvey insults Welington being quoted " There's a Wellington wit that doesn't wash in Auckland. In Auckland we couldn't give a rats arse about cafe society and who's up who. And if we get a whiff that these people are the in crowd in Wellington, we turn off. There's a bit of that."

The Labour Party president then really puts his foot in it.

Harvey is further quoted; " We (Aucklanders) don't necessarily like anything about the South Island. We don't care much about it, we don't like South Island people, and we don't like South Island jokes."

Michael Cullen represented the Dunedin seat of St Kilda for 15 years, but now lives in Napier.

The paper reports that Cullen is understood to be furious at Harvey's comments.

"Helen knows every street in Auckland, she knows the smell and taste, and that's why she's a good prime minister, she knows where the engine room is. Those other ministers better learn where the switches are," Harvey said.

Which now leaves clear impressions, that will certainly not be easily forgotten south of the Bombay Hills, that the Labour Party liberal machine is mean, nasty and hypocritical.

Prior to the election, Labour claimed it had the market on compassion; only they really, really cared about the rest of us.

And yet, when you hear somebody spewing vile, inflammatory rhetoric these days, it can usually be traced back to a liberal, and worse, a Labour liberal - including the Prime Minister.

What Labour now seems fond of doing is cruelly stereotyping and trashing entire segments of New Zealand society.

The worse thing about all this is that virtually everything about modern liberalism today, teaches these kinds of hate-filled, emotionally charged and hypocritical concepts about life and about people.

Modern liberals, and that includes modern Labour, don't seem to think about issues, they react to them - and then try to justify their emotional reactions as harbingers of fact.

When they argue against facts, their dialogue seems more of an attempt to convince themselves they're right than an attempt to convince others.

That's as hypocritical as hell. And it shows, virtually every time one of them opens their mouth in public.

Old Labour people will be turning in their graves.

What's it been, seven months since the election. That's seven easy monthly steps Labor's taken to virtually ensure - three strikes and you're out.
