Jim's Bank Final Decision Still Pending
Deputy Prime Minister Jim Anderton’s “Jim’s bank” looks likely to be given the thumbs up but the public won’t know the exact form it will take for a couple of months yet.
Speaking at the post cabinet press conference today Prime Minister Helen Clark confirmed cabinet had been discussing Mr. Anderton’s proposal for a publicly owned New Zealand bank today, which they had narrowed down to “two broad options.”
The final form the bank would take had not been finalised but it was likely to be drawn up in the “..next two months.” Miss Clark said.
Miss Clark said she personally supported Mr. Anderton’s idea of a locally owned bank, which she said would be viewed positively by many low-income New Zealanders who felt victimised by bank charges.
