N Korea Rages at Japanese Defence Ship Support
North Korea has slammed a Japanese plan to change its law to allow Japanese Self Defence Force ships to take part in United States war efforts against terrorism, North Korea's news agency reports.
North Korea's criticism came today [Monday New Zealand time].
"Japan is trying to make bad use of the U.S. tragedy to make itself a military power rapidly and make the unlimited dispatch of the Self-Defense Forces legal," the North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said in a report monitored in Beijing.
The North's official news agency took issue with a pledge made last week by Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi. Koizumi vowed to make any legal changes necessary to enable the SDF to provide logistical support to the U.S. military in the event of operations it conducts in response to the terror attacks.
"This is an attempt to send the Self-Defense Forces abroad officially under the name of logistical support to the U.S. military," it said.
