Pasifika Festival Funding Auckland City Response
EDITOR’S NOTE: The following correspondence was received today from Auckland City Council’s Manager, Leisure Services. It follows up on questions raised in Anne Else’s Letter From Elsewhere on the subject of funding for the Pasifika festival.
Dear Anne,
Further to Ayliss' response, I can assure you that I know of no plans to cut the Pasifika Festival budget next year. Auckland City puts a substantial amount into the festival and we recognise that the festival needs to expand in some way.
For this to happen, there need to be other organisations involved taking reponsibility both for its future direction/expansion and financially. To this end, a review of the 'strategy & governance' of Pasifika is underway which will involve consultation with a wide variety of parties who have a stake in the outcome.
A report will be going to council with recommendations in July 2002. Thank you for your concern and support.
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed last Saturday.
regards,

Hi Anne
thank you for your email and your concern for Pasifika Festival. As far as I know, the current budget for Pasifika Festival will not be cut by council.
Thanks for your support of this fabulous event. Ayliss

Dear Ayliss
I attended Pasifika in the weekend, and it was absolutely fantastic. But I was very concerned to hear that apparently the Auckland City Council may cut its funding for Pasifika next year. Is this true, and if so, can you give me any more details? I would really appreciate a reply today, as I need correct information urgently.
Sincerely
Anne Else
