A small group of worshippers marked Ash Wednesday today with
the traditional marking of foreheads with ashes beside the
Cenotaph outside Parliament. The service of the Ashes was
led by Father Gerard Burns of St Anne's Catholic Parish,
Newtown. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Christian
season of Lent, a period of 40 days leading up to the
celebrations of Holy Week and Easter Sunday.
