Genevieve Cora Fraser Poem: Mother Palestine

Mother Palestine

By Genevieve Cora Fraser

She held him close
Draped her black shawl
About his frail body
A tent warm and safe

So little so fierce
In his love for her
His father a martyr
Shot at the wall

A tent within a tent
Near the remains
Of their refugee home
Of crushed memories

Fighter jets streaked
Drowning out a helicopter's
Whirl blades slashing the air
Into warring currents

Brave boy she thought
His sad eyes warmed
By her caress
Beheld her radiant

Snow melted in the flames
A campfire ablaze
Fed by the remains
Of broken hearts
