Amnesty Calls On UN To Condemn Death
Penalty As Human Rights Violation
During 2004, more than 3,797 people
were executed in 25 countries and at least 7,395 were
sentenced to death in 64 countries, said Amnesty
International today. Releasing its annual worldwide
statistics on the use of capital punishment, Amnesty
International called on the United Nations Commission on
Human Rights, currently meeting in Geneva, to condemn the
death penalty as a violation of fundamental human rights.

- “Mr Tamihere has enormous energy - he has ability but

just Helen Bain's script. After last week's Parliamentary
assault on TV3, which was followed by a blog posting so
silly that somebody sensibly deleted it from the party
website (I'll paste in the whole thing below),... See... Public

------------Government Pays Tribute To Pope
- What a remarkable life it was, from his birth in Poland in 1920, to enduring the Nazi occupation and the war as a young man, and then seeing a communist regime rule his country for the next four and a half decades. John Paul II became not only Poland’s first Pope, but also the world’s best known and most travelled Pope – reaching out to every continent and across the faiths. His visit to New Zealand as Pope is recalled with great affection.
