1:00 Assoc Prof Yongjin Zhang

Things are heating up between Japan and China. Mass demonstrations have sprung up across China, protesting the interpretation of history used in Japanese schoolbooks. China believes Japan has never fronted up to atrocities, such as the Nanking massacre, that it perpetrated during the Second World War. Japan counters that China is stirring up anti-Japanese sentiment to thwart Japanese hopes of obtaining a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. Assoc Prof Yongjin Zhang is from the University of Auckland and is an expert in Chinese Foreign Policy; he'll be in the studio at 1pm.
