12.10 Leonie - An interview with a guitar teacher who has spent the last 17 years working with violent offenders in Grafton prison, Queensland. Leonie features in the documentary “Music and Murder” which chronicles the experience of three men imprisoned for murder who are learning learning music in jail.

12.20 Michael Cordell. Michael Cordell spent 5 years making “Music and Murder.” The film examines whether self expression can be a useful part of the rehabilitation process. This is a documentary that raises more questions than it answers. Noelle asks Michael what he learned about prisons, about criminals and about the nature of remorse while making the film.

12.45 Matt Nippert. “Born Bad: Are criminals a lost cause?” Are criminals born or made? Is rehabilitation possible for the worst offenders? How do New Zealanders feel we should deal with those who commit violent crime? And does punishment have wider implications for society? The Sensible Sentencing Trust have announced that they’re preparing a database of known sex offenders and their addresses. The website should be up and running very shortly,and will push the boundaries on naming people sez Garth Mc Vicar…. Communities have a right to protect themselves, but again it raises the question, is rehab possible for an offender if they are going to face this sort of stigma once they come out of prison
