12:20 Nevil
Gibson
First up today we have the charming Nevil Gibson. The NBR editor is on to talk about the dark art of political spin. Does it really exist in New Zealand? Recently we have seen it infect rugby as the dark lord of spin himself Alistair Campbell is in town working for the British and Irish Lions. Noelle and Nevil will have a good old chinwag about that at 12:20.
12:45 Jonathan Milne
Our man in Wellington is on the line at 12:45 with the latest from the mad world of politics.
1:15 Terrance O’Brien
Charles Swindells, the US Ambassador to New Zealand, last night took a swipe at both the New Zealand and US governments over their relations with each other. He said more needs to be done to mend the differences created in the mid-1980s. It seems it’s time for a good hard look at our relationship with America. According to some any debate would have to include a discussion on our Nuclear Free Legislation. Terrance O’Brien is the former New Zealand ambassador to the UN and a Senior Fellow at Victoria University’s Centre for Strategic Studies. He’ll give us the low down on our American friends at 1:15pm.
1:30 Bob Hancocks
It’s official; the television really is the idiot box. Well, almost. Researchers at the University of Otago have found that there is a direct link between the amount of television a child watches and the length of academic carers. Children who watched the most television were the most likely to have left school with no qualifications. Conversely those that watched one hour or less of television were the most likely to go to gain a university qualification. Bob Hancocks is one of the researchers who published the findings. He’s on at 1:30.
1.45 The Mag Review with Kris Berger
Kris Berger is back with another great mag review at 1:45. Fans of the great Imogen Neale don’t need to fret. She’s in Singapore and will be back in a couple of weeks.
