12:15 Andrew Hawkins

It’s about time for the sixth instalment in the Harry Potter series. Every ten year old from here to Hogwarts will be giddy with excitement. And behind the bookshelves is a well-oiled marketing machine designed to keep the excitement high for what continues to be the best thing at bedtime since a bunch of public school toffs decided to walk through their wardrobe. Noelle talks to Andrew Hawkins publicity director at publishers Allen and Unwin about the publicity for the new book at 12:15.

12:45 Roseanne Liang

This week is the first week of the New Zealand International Film Festival. One local documentary screening at the festival is Banana in a Nutshell. The film is a look at director Roseanne Liang’s attempts to reconcile the love for her strict Chinese parents and her Pakeha boyfriend. The film explores her navigation of the cultural divide she and her partner must cross to get her parents to accept their engagement. Roseanne will be in the studio at 12:45 to talk about her life and the film that sprang from it. Banana in a Nutshell is screening at the Village Hoyts Cinemas on the 22nd of July at 7:15pm, the 23rd at 10:30am and again that day 6:45pm.

1:00 Sarah Watt

More from the film fest. Look Both Ways is being billed as a humorous take on depression, anxiety and illness as three characters are forced to deal with a train wreck despite their respective problems. Described as graceful, charming and funny this should be one of the must see films of the festival. Noelle talks to writer/director Sarah Watt at 1pm. The film screens this Wednesday the 13th of July at 6.15pm and the next day at 10:30am. Both screening are at the Sky City Cinema.
