TODAY’S TOP SCOOPS
------------
Peters Attacks Dr Brash's Unofficial Advisers
Peters: "National has been exposed as the
puppets of the far right many suspected they were. We had
always known Don Brash was just not his own man – but none
of us knew the entire cadre of puppet masters who where
operating behind the scenes. It now seems it is a veritable
whose who of the far right. National’s three “R’s” – no not
those – but Ruth, Roger and Roger. I mean everybody knew
Ruth Richardson was there – but Roger Douglas, Michael
Basset and even Rob McLeod too?" See... Peters:

Weather-Bomb Katrina Looms Over Mainland USA
-
Hurricane Katrina is poised to become the third ever
Category 5 hurricane to make landfall in the mainland United
States. The Super-Hurricane is remarkably young having
formed off the Florida coast just last Tuesday. In the past
few days Katrina has intensified spectacularly fast from the
Category 3 intensity with which it struck South Florida to
the extremely rare Category 5 intensity, the highest level
of intensity on the Simpson-Saffir scale packing sustained
winds of 170mph and gusts in excess of 250kmh. See... Hurricane

National were ever elected, Education Minister Trevor
Mallard warned parents today. See... Nats

Brash Releases Treaty Principles Policy
-
National Party Leader Don Brash has today signaled changes
to speed up the Treaty process and treat all New Zealanders
on the basis of their need not their race. "There can be no
basis for government funding based on race, no basis for
separate Maori electorates, no basis for introducing Maori
wards in local authority elections, and no obligation for
local government to consult Maori in preference to other New
Zealanders. I meant every word of the Orewa speech last
year, and I stand by those conclusions today. We are one
country with many peoples, not two peoples living in some
form of partnership," Don Brash said. See... We
