ELECTION '05: Special Vote Calculator

Special vote caclulator

By Douglas Bagnall

This calculator works out what happens with various special votes configurations. If you change one number it shuffles round the others to keep it adding to 100%. Therefore you should change one number at a time then push the "Calculate" button at the bottom of the screen to see what effect it has on seats.

One interesting outcome shown is that Jim Anderton's Progressives only need 1.44% of special votes to get Matt Robson back in (vs 1.2 on the night), with National losing the seat.

In it's initial state the calculator assumes that 80% of the 193,348 outstanding Special Votes received on Election Day + 21,651 Special Declaration Votes made prior to 17 will be declared valid. You can also alter this assumption as you calculate.
