Huge Internet Demand For Donald's Funeral - Infomercials on TVNZ
(Click on image for Scoop Video) [1] Television New Zealand may be regretting its decision not to broadcast Rod Donald's funeral live on free-to-air television after its interactive services division struggled to cope with massive viewer demand. On TVNZ's Channel One, instead of Rod Donald's funeral, during the period of the funeral viewers were treated to the final half hour of Good Morning followed by an episode of the quintessential daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless. On TV2 the state broadcaster was playing infomercials. See…. New US Ambassador Enjoys Scenic Wellington -
Today, New Zealand's new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Winston Peters, set about warming up relations with the latest American Ambassador to New Zealand, William McCormick. Yesterday Mr McCormick experienced a rather less courteous first glimpse of New Zealand. A number of peace activists, many of whom were obviously inspired by both the fashion and verbal excesses of late 1970s punk rock, gave Mr McCormick a less than hospitable welcome to Godzone. See... US Army Confirms Use Of Banned Weapon In Fallujah
- A March '05 publication by the US Army confirms that US soldiers used white phosphorus offensively in the Battle of Fallujah. This directly contradicts statements made by the U.S. Department of Defense and by the US State Department. The new discovery also backs up the allegations made in an Italian documentary screened this week [1] concerning the use of white phosphorous in Fallujah. See... William Rivers Pitt On Iraq's Winnebagos of Death
- I've been digging into one of the justifications for invading Iraq proffered by the Bush crew over the last two years. Bear with me, as this gets into chemistry. Let's take a look at the Winnebagos of Death. You will remember these as the mobile biological weapons laboratories in Iraq so dramatically described by Colin Powell before the UN in February of 2003. "We have firsthand descriptions," said Powell, "of biological weapons factories on wheels and on rails. The trucks and train cars are easily moved and are designed to evade detection by inspectors. Ramzy Baroud On The Inimitable Rosa Lee Parks
- What I find truly remarkable in Rosa Parks’ now legendary defiance is the simple forthrightness of her actions. Her death, at the age of 92, should be more than a sober reminder of the legacy of a legendary Civil Rights pioneer, but rather a reminder of an often forgotten lesson that meaningful change can be achieved if there are those willing to fight for it. - Unemployment has fallen to its lowest point since the Household Labour Force Survey began in 1986 with 2,093,000 New Zealanders now in employment. Statistics New Zealand's quarterly survey shows New Zealand's official unemployment rate has fallen to 3.4 percent, the lowest in the 19-year history of the survey. The unemployment rate fell a further 0.2 points, down from 3.6 percent in the June quarter, meaning New Zealand still has the lowest rate of unemployment in the OECD. See...
