Cannibals
Cooked Alive, Served With White Wine Sauce
[1] - Cannibalism, thought to be relatively rare in the animal kingdom, has been found to be prevalent among the green-lipped mussel. AUT University marine ecology and aquaculture senior lecturer Dr Andrea Alfaro’s paper exploring mussel cannibalism was recently published in the Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology. Dr Alfaro collected adult mussels from three intertidal mussel beds along the Far North’s Ninety Mile Beach between August 2000 and March 2001 and analysed their gut contents. See... Report: One Minute Spectacle Leads To Gridlock
The cruel sea off Wellington's South Coast acted as the knackers yard for the once mighty and proud HMNZS Wellington. Thousands of Wellingtonians trooped out to see their city's naval namesake make its final downward journey. Tragically, post-sinking many of these same people then thought it be a good idea to jump into their four wheel drives and leave, all at the same time. See... Neptune Gets More Military Hardware [1]

Palestinian Exiles Desperate To Return To Territories
- Yasser Abu Moailek writes that Palestinian exile Hatem Hamoud fondly remembers embracing his West Bank comrades last February, at the doorstep of his Gaza apartment, and bidding them farewell as they returned to their homes in the West Bank after nearly four years of exile. "We will embrace again soon, once we are reunited in our hometowns," Hamoud, from Bethlehem, told his departing comrades. The men were among 26 Palestinians deported to the Gaza Strip at the close of what became known as the Church of Nativity standoff. See... Yasser Abu Moailek's Letter From Gaza [1]

- United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan renewed his call for a comprehensive counter-terrorism pact after he arrived in Amman, Jordan, today to express solidarity with its people and their king following this week’s suicide bombings on three hotels there that killed scores of people and injured more than 100 others. Mr. Annan said that a comprehensive convention against terrorism “could be a New Year’s gift to the world’s people if it can be adopted before the end of this year,” according to a UN spokesperson. Jason Leopold: Turd Blossom Remains In The Target
Zone
- News reports in recent weeks have suggested that Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has narrowed his criminal inquiry into whether Rove purposely failed to tell the grand jury hearing evidence in the case that he spoke with Time Magazine reporter Matthew Cooper in July 2003 and revealed the identity of the undercover CIA agent. But Fitzgerald hasn't resolved another important element in the case: what appears to be misleading statements Rove made to FBI investigators on Oct. 8, 2003, less than two weeks after the Justice Department announced that it had launched a criminal probe into Plame's outing, the attorneys said. - The history of the present King of the United States [George II], and that of his predecessors [of the Royal Houses of Elephant and Donkey alike] dating back to the reign of King Richard of the Royal Family of Nixon, is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations [by kings and their trusted advisors], all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these Colonies and their Poor and Middle Class inhabitants.
