Politics: Is HIV Infection Preventing Zimbabweans From
Seeking Help?
- Scoop's Kevin List writes
that the New Zealand Government approved a Special Zimbabwe
Residence Policy (SRP) in 2005 and since then about 500
Zimbabweans have been granted residence. But many who are
eligible have yet to come forward to apply for residence.
Government officials suspect many potential residents are
not coming forward because of uncertainty around their HIV
status. What's the Government doing about this issue?

Scoop's Lebanon War Aftermath Analysis Continues
Ramzy Baroud - If it is true that the 33-day war on
Lebanon was the culmination of regional developments and
that it can hardly be fathomed separate from the brutal
Israeli war on Gaza or the faltering American imperial
project in Iraq, then it is hardly inconsistent to ponder
the implications of the war’s outcome on the region as a
whole, notwithstanding Lebanon. See... Ramzy

Kids: Jackie Little Takes A Trip To Town With The Tykes
- One of the perks of being a stay at home mum is that you get to re-live some great childhood experiences without the scary parts - and under the guise of being a responsible adult too. It had been a long time since I had been aboard a vehicle so fraught with social hazard as the good old school bus, but here I was, standing with my group of supervisees awaiting voyage to the Capital.and a day of exploring national treasures at the museum. Terror:
Toni Solo Takes A Global Perspective On Terror
-
The bomb attacks in Madrid in 2004 and London in 2005 raised
the issue of racism especially starkly for politicians in
Europe as well as for their North American and Pacific
allies. No matter how they spin it, the fundamental question
they face is whether they value people's lives on racist
criteria or not. The record of their responses to terror
attacks by the US government and its allies weakens their
condemnations of such attacks against civilians in the US
and Europe. See... Toni

Democracy
In The Dock: US Court Rules Counting Votes Unnecessary
- San Diego Superior Court Judge Yuri Hofmann rendered his decision in the election challenge in California’s 50th Congressional District. He dismissed the request for a recount and for discovery of the facts of the Busby-Bilbray election stating specifically that "Once the House asserts exclusive jurisdiction and selects a candidate, the court no longer has jurisdiction" (emphasis added). The judge argued that the June 13 swearing in alone was sufficient to establish Bilbray’s “election.” The event had the power to take away any and all citizen rights and immediately rescind authority over their own elections. Police Minister Annette King to stop the taser trial before
a New Zealander loses his or her life. The trial is set to

the responsibility to answer them, because public safety,
indeed public lives, are at stake,” Hone Harawira said.
