Politics: NZ Cannot Hunt Down
Uncharged French Saboteur
Text and Audio - Scoop's Kevin List reports Prime Minister Helen Clark has ruled out hunting down the uncharged third French spy who has been fingered as blowing up Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior in Auckland Harbour in 1985. The alleged saboteur, Gerard Royal, has attracted attention in France due to the fact he is the brother of Segolene Royal , who is a contender in next year's French presidential elections. - Maori Party MP Hone Harawira has issued Nat Party leader, Don Brash, an invite to repeat his 'no full blooded Maori' comments on the Marae: "Maybe Don Brash would like to come on up to our marae to tell my relations they’re not Maori, or maybe, as with his snide remarks about Te Wananga o Aotearoa, he only talks tough from the safety of the footpath." Rights: Tuhoe Blockades Urewera Road In Protest Against
Forest Sale
- Tuhoe set up two roadblocks on Thursday afternoon near Waimana. The protest is directed against the sale of 94,300 hectares of timberland last year. Rayonier, a Florida-based multi-national company which is the seventh largest private owner of timberland in the United States, bought the forest off Carter Holt Harvey for $435 million. See... Five K Bounty Offered For Glow-Worm-Tormenting

- The operators of Waitomo Caves are offering a $5000 reward for information on who was responsible for splashing white paint around the glow worm caves late last year, leaving the caves permanently damaged. Vandals broke into the caves complex on December 28 last year and splashed white paint around the glow worm cave, causing considerable damage to its natural features. Exploiting Major Loopholes
The globalisation of the arms industry has opened up major loopholes in all current arms export regulations, allowing sales to human rights abusers and countries under arms embargoes, according to a new report by the Control Arms Campaign. The report, Arms without Borders, is launched today as the United Nations opens its annual session on arms control, in the run up to a landmark vote at the UN to start work on an Arms Trade Treaty.
