Foreign Affairs: NZ Sends Fresh Squad Of Bobbies To Timor

- The second contingent of New Zealand Police will be leaving for Timor-Leste next week to be deployed under the umbrella of UNMIT, the United Nations mission. Contingent commander Assistant Commissioner Graeme Cairns said the 25 member team will be working alongside other international police under a UN Police Commissioner. Business: Godfrey Hirst Announces Plan For Hoovering Up Feltex

- The National Distribution Union and The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union are concerned about the possible outcome for Feltex workers after Godfrey Hirst announced its offer for the company today. The deal would mean the loss of 135 jobs through the total closure of the carpet maker’s Kakariki factory (near Fielding) and a staff reduction of 40% in its Christchurch plant. See... Technology: Kiwi-Made Robot Defeats All Opponents

- A seed-planting robot designed to beautify ‘Gondwanan’ highways secured first place for the University of Auckland at the Warman Design and Build Competition in Sydney, held to award mechanical engineering excellence. The Auckland team beat 15 universities from around Australasia to claim the coveted prize. Guantánamo: UK Must Accept Return of Residents

- In response to the reports featured in The Guardian newspaper today that the USA has offered to return nearly all UK residents held at Guantánamo Bay, Amnesty International calls on the UK government to fulfil its obligations under domestic and international law and ensure the immediate return of all the men to the UK. Vanuatu: Papuan’s Fight Against Deportation Order

- The Court is to rule on Papuan activist Andy Ayamiseba’s appeal case against his deportation order this Friday.
