Kamala Sarup: Peace From Global Aspect

We need to take an appreciative first step toward the path of developing mutual trust. Understanding cannot be reached by sticking to extreme political stands. Mutual give and take with an open mind to leave out something, even if very dear, and formulate an atmosphere of compromise suitable in a pluralistic society will be the only answer to break the present impasse. In a modern world heading with a break neck speed toward a global village concept, we cannot shut our eyes to the events elsewhere. We cannot exist in isolation. Barriers are crumbling down and all kinds of people everywhere are coming closer together. For this very reason, peaceful coexistence is the most fitting solution to world problems and of course for solving national issues too.

There exist a lot of conflicting views within our political ideologies and concepts, but they can be sorted out not by using violent means but by sitting together for negotiations and frank exchange of views.

No nation makes any headway if the extreme leftist or rightist views predominate, as they blindly resort to their own die-hard analyses. The silent majority must never be forgotten. Although the majority does not voice its feelings directly, it is, nevertheless, the most powerful force in any nation. Where common people are sovereign, their voice, their needs and their aspirations must be respected first and foremost. They have no political reason to fight among fellow brothers and sisters, as they do not want to capture the power only. Their only desire is peace, progress and prosperity. What they want is improvement of transport and communication, education, health care, farming, industry and over-all a happy life with security, friendship and mutual trust and cooperation globally.

Politics of the nation are supposed to represent the desires and aspirations of these people, not of the handful of leaders and their henchmen. Terrorism and wars have always brought ruin. Even those who think they have defeated their adversaries have experienced no gain and enjoyed no mental peace. We have to be able to develop peace culture in the World. Full peaceful mind-set is the dire need of the hour, but in a society where most people are uneducated and illiterate, old prejudices and wrong concepts still predominate giving ample opportunities to corrupt individuals and cunning leaders to exploit the innocent. Unfortunately, those persons who are conscious of political rights of the people do not adhere to peaceful norms and ideals.

Politics in a system are the eye-openers of the common mass. Their mass meetings, publications and canvassing are the chief and only ways of making the general voters aware of their rights. However, instead of educating the people peacefully, the political leaders should not be engaged in infighting and nasty quarrels. As their objective has to be capturing of economic power, than only they can be worthy of leading the nation to peace, security and progress.

The politics should not forget their petty interests and think in terms of national unity. They had to put up their combined fight and struggle to reinstate peace. They have to keep aside their recriminatory dealings. In the same way, when today we are face to face with violence, bitter misunderstanding and mistrust again, peaceful forces must come together in a friendly manner to forge unity and score victory over situations of fear, despotism and disintegration.

Even, politics of the World, hopes among the people because people know the peace made public is a big achievements of the system.

Today, when we are all traumatized with the experiences of recent widespread violence, people abroad laugh at our exhortations of peace. Let us bury the hatchet and restore our long adherence to peace and humanity. Let us reinstate our past glory. Let us establish our hospitable and tolerant nature and welcome foreign guests with open arms to our natural paradise once again.
