AG Reports: Speaker Clarifies, Recommends Reimbursement

Scoop FULL COVERAGE of the AG Report and Reaction - Speaker Margaret Wilson: Briefly, the Auditor-General found breaches in the allocation to seven of the eight parliamentary parties. His finding was based on an interpretation of what activities fell within the definition of “parliamentary purposes”. A legal opinion from Crown Law, which found that a “parliamentary purpose” is negated if one of the purposes of the communication is to invite support for party policies, supported his interpretation. Over 100 scarecrows are expected to take up residence in Kumeu this April, when the three week celebration of art, wine and entertainment returns for the second Kumeu Scarecrow Festival. United Nations News: UN General Assembly Poised To Vote For Annan's Replacement

- Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon of the Republic of Korea is likely to be elected by acclamation as next Secretary-General of the United Nations when the General Assembly meets at 3 p.m. tomorrow to formally appoint the successor to Kofi Annan, who steps down on 31 December.
