1220 – Report from the Carnival against Carmageddon
On (Saturday) you might have witnessed a bunch of people destroying a car with their bare hands, then proceeding to plant trees within the wreckage. And you may have wondered – well, why? The avant garde demonstration was part of the Campaign against Carmageddon – whose organisers want free and frequent public transport in our city. Bfm reporter Natasha went along and I'll have her report at 1220.
1235 – AUSA President Lisieli
1250 – Australian Terror Trial
Nine muslim men are currently standing trial in Sydney on charges of terrorism. Police allege they had plans to bomb Australia's only nuclear reactor. At ten to one I'll be joined by Tom Allard from the Sydney Morning Herald to tell us how Australians are reacting to the trial – the first of its kind there.
1320 – Conal Townsend from the Property Council of New Zealand
The herald reported this morning that the council is proposing a huge increase in apartment levies in the CBD. But Conal Townsend from the Property Council of New Zealand says this will drive people, mainly young people, out of the CBD cos they just won't be able to afford to live there. He'll be joining me at twenty past one to explain how these levies work and why he thinks increasing them is such a bad idea.
1340 – Phil Bell, aka DJ Sir-vere
Nas called his latest album Hip hop is dead, and he may just have a point. Figures released from America show overall album sales are in decline, but hip hop and r and b have slipped by a much greater margin than any other genre. An article in Forbes puts it down to fans becoming sick of the gangster-isation of hip hop. I spoke to Phil Bell, aka DJ Sir-vere, hip hop afficiando and editor of Back 2 Basics magazine about the trend, and if the same thing's happening here.
