The Prime Minister in question answering mode – Scoop image - March 2007
*******
The spectre of a nation full of delinquent children running amok, their bottom's protected by the State was not one the Prime Minister seemed overly keen on dwelling on at today's post-cabinet press conference.

The Prime Minister faced a number of questions from the nation's media representatives and clarified the situation regarding the Government position regarding Green MP Sue Bradford's Bill repealing Section 59. According to the PM Sue Bradford's Bill would not become a Government Bill and would therefore not be pushed through the House this week. The Prime Mnister also took some time to make comments about a report into Police Culture prepared by Dame Margaret Bazley that is due for public consumption tomorrow.

As well as dealing with these concerns the Prime Minister also took the time to explain to Scoop media that the nefarious activities of Israeli spies were partly behind honest hardworking genalogists and historians lives being made difficult by the Births, Deaths, Marriages and Relationships Registration Amendment Bill.

This Bill would see official records of births, deaths, marriages and registrations locked away from public eyes – shifting this information out of reach of researchers, historians, many genealogists and others.

Critics are concerned this public information will therefore remain classified unless an applicant meets a series of criteria that would satisfy the register's gatekeeper - a state employee or civil servant – that lawful access is permitted.
