UK Issues Fresh Travel Advice On Nigeria

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) of the United Kingdom (UK) on Friday, advised that it is still unsafe for British nationals to remain in three states in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
This appears to be in line with the change to FCO Travel Advice made on May 26 advising against all travel to the three states. These changes reflect the deterioration in the security situation in the Niger Delta since early 2006 and an increase in kidnappings since 1 May.
FCO Travel Advice advises against all travel to Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers States in the Niger Delta.
The Niger Delta is unsafe for British nationals because of the very high risk of kidnapping, armed robbery and other armed attacks in the region. In fifteen separate incidents since January 2006 31 British nationals have been among over 180 foreign nationals kidnapped. One Briton was killed in 2006.
Six British nationals are among 33 foreign nationals currently being held as hostages.
