Full Frontal Assault – The Vitters Square Off?

Exposed Senator’s Wife Promised a Bobbitt if He Strayed

Did God Save the Senator?

Senator David Vitter, the family values politician from Louisiana, admitted that he’d committed “a serious sin” and strayed from his marriage. There are always consequences. Vitter may be sleeping lightly with good reason.

In a 2000 interview, wife Wendy wowed to take action, Lorena Bobbitt Style, if she ever discovered that her husband David ever strayed from the marriage.

In 2000, Wendy Vitter told Newhouse News Service she could not be as forgiving as Livingston's wife or Hillary Clinton if her husband were unfaithful.

“I’m a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary,” Mrs. Vitter told Newhouse News. “If he does something like that, I’m walking away with one thing, and it’s not alimony, trust me.”

No doubt this has created stress in the Vitter household. Mrs. Vitter had every reason to think that her man, Senator David Vitter, (R-LA), would stay within the marital bond and avoid purchasing the services of sex workers. All she had to do was read his political positions as a U.S. Senator from Louisiana. Imagine the shock when Sen. Vitter confessed to “a serious sin” after his phone number was found in the records of the D.C. Madam, Deborah Palfrey (left). Imagine the Senator’s fear when he recalled the Lorena Bobbitt allusion (see below).

Vitter’s Virtues – God and Family
Senator David Vitter (R-LA) advertises a strong family platform. This statement from his web page is fairly clear.

We share a common goal – to make Louisiana an even better place to live, work, and raise a family. As the parents of four children, my wife Wendy and I get up every day dedicated to securing a truly bright future for all of us in Louisiana.

That’s not all. Vitter went out of his way to identify himself as a paragon of virtue, a straight shooter for the values of family and church.

Vitter pushed hard for reauthorization of Abstinence Education program. The federal act encourages teens to abstain from sexual activity of all types.

(Washington, D.C.) – June 25, 2007. U.S. Sen. David Vitter last week authored a letter to the chairman and ranking member of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee expressing support for reauthorization of the Title V Abstinence Education Program of the Social Security Act. Twelve senators joined Vitter in writing in support of the program.

“This a valuable program with proven results, but it is nearing its expiration. We must reauthorize this program so we can continue the incredible strides we have made in teaching teens about both risk avoidance and protecting themselves from potential abuse,” Vitter said.

After being caught in the clutches of the D.C. Madam, Vitter issued this mea culpa:

"This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible," Vitter said in the statement. "Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there -- with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way."

Both God and Mrs. Vitter were unavailable for comment. Vitter admitted to being in the D.C. Madam’s little black book (phone records) but refused to go into details on just what the seriousness sin was.

In addition to this admitted escapade, a Republican official in Louisiana affirmed that Vitter had an 11 month sexual relationship with a known prostitute in Louisiana. Vitter denies this but the heat is on. And the opportunities in the post-Katrina New Orleans are staggering.

Did New Orleans Finest tempt the Senator? “ It's ‘like the Super Bowl’ for sex workers, said Deputy Chief James Scott, commander of the (New Orleans) Police Department's Intelligence Division, from his division's headquarters in a trailer.”

What is a Bobbitt?

Lorena and John Bobbitt were married and living in Manassas, Virginia (near Washington, DC) in 1992. According to Lorena, John beat and sexually assaulted her with some frequency. One night, as her husband slept, Lorena mounted a preemptive attack by cutting off her husband’s penis. She left home, penis in hand, and threw it into a vacant lot. When they arrived, alert medics retrieved the severed appendage, took Bobbitt to the hospital, and in a miracle of modern science, the severed appendage was reattached.

Lorena was tried but acquitted on the basis of temporary insanity due to post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the result of the beatings by her husband. The partnership dissolved. Reparative surgery on Bobbitt was so effective he went on to star in several “X” rated movies. Lorena avoided a film career and returned to her nail cutting job. She was accused of beating her mother but charges were dropped.
