Fashion: Lonely Hearts Drops Club From Its Brand

Fashion Week: Lonely Hearts Drops Club From Its Brand

Since their debut as a Verge Breakthrough label at Fashion Week 2005, Lonely Hearts have come along way, growing up, out and dropping the ‘club’ from their name.

Hot on everybody’s lips at fashion week due to loosing their sponsor at the last minute to rival label Stolen Girlfriends Club, Lonely Hearts showed a mature, grungy, original collection that was a refreshing change from the ‘80s inspired collections shown by many other labels this year,

A little bit Madonna, a little bit boy band chic, a little bit Boy George and a lot tongue-in-cheek, the collection drew inspiration from the 90’s with their mix of lingerie, patent leather, tartan, metallics and spots.

The girls walked the runway in corsetry and bustiers over fishing net tee-shirt dresses, smocked chiffon, and raw edged cotton shirting – textures and fabrics that both fought with each other, and complemented one another at the same time.

Guys were grunge band cool in tartan shirting and the skinniest of jeans - held up by braces, v necked t-shirts and oversized Warhol like printed shirts. After a week of seeing patent leather in almost every show, Lonely Hearts came up on top with their refreshing take on the look in the form of a men’s hooded parka with heavy bull dog studs – risky, but it paid off.

Brilliant orange reds and electric blues broke up a stark black and white palate.

The only low point was the hit and miss dip dyed fabrics, and the fact that there is something so depressing about a saggy, half full bra cup. Other than that, well done Lonely Hearts – cool factor ten!
