Fashion: Huffer's Offsite Show Ends With A Bang!

Fashion Week: Huffer's Offsite Show Ends With A Bang!

As the finale on the ANZFW schedule, Huffer’s off-site show ended the event with a bang. Held at the Giltrap Prestige Workshop in Grey Lynn, co-founders Dan Buckley and Steve Dunstan showed us a sharp-edged collection of brightly coloured streetwear.

Pre-show, mechanics wearing customised Huffer overalls barricaded the entrance where VIPs struggled to make their way to the front row. Just before the first model hit the catwalk (which resembled a mini road), the headlights of a Porsche beamed down the runway.

Stylish jeans, hooded bombers, slimline trackies, puffer vests and a range of knits were key to the range. Block colour knit cardis were a favourite for guys as were the textured leather bombers. For the girls, a pumpkin coloured textured silk dress featuring tuxedo tailoring through the front, ruching through the bodice, and a tie around the waist was divine.

An interesting choice of colours was used throughout – ochre, pumpkin, deep red, forest green and teal. Tartan elbow patches and hood lining created the perfect finishing touch to jackets.

Entitled “Infinite Super Symmetry”, the collection draws inspiration from existentialism – why we’re here, examining the thing in the middle of a man and a woman, this crazy thing called love, and understanding our reason of being.

Styling was ‘geeky cool’ with thick-rimmed glasses, rolled up pants on both guys and girls, and shirts buttoned high on the neck. Tuxedo dressing was used in the form of sweet wee bow ties and narrow ties on guys and girls. And to complete the look, thick woollen scarfs that had pockets at the bottom – how handy!

Last year Huffer not only debuted at ANZFW, they also won the prestigious Air New Zealand Fashion Export Award - an award aimed to help NZ designers boost their export earnings by providing a lucrative travel prize to undertake strategic international travel. Of the two categories, Huffer won the Growth Category, open to any designer showing at ANZFW 2006.

This achievement has opened doors for the Huffer team, business has grown and they’re now stocking at more stores across the globe.
