State of Grace Returns With Hitchcock Theme
Fashion Week: State of Grace Returns To Fashion Week With Hitchcock Theme
Sherilyn Catchpole’s brand hasn’t been seen on the ANZFW runway for a while, and this collection inspired by Hitchcock’s The Birds was well worthy of the reappearance.
The collection was satisfyingly directional and never fussy. Catchpole knows just where to trim, what with, and when to stop! Like a gorgeous wool seersucker-y dress with velvet trim on a short puff sleeve. She also mixes colours innovatively and successfully – we loved the combination of creamy print top with sleeve trim, coral belt and chartreuse knit/sunray pleat skirt.
Nor is State of Grace afraid of tailoring – hence great looking high waist skirts, an interest back on a cropped jacket, a beautifully shaped wool lurex dress.
Models wore suitably bird-pecked chignons. The designer clearly had fun with accessories and standouts were a dear little bird buckled belt under the bust of a strapless dress, and an exquisite neckpiece worn over an ivory dress. A peek of faux fur emerged at the end – well Tippee would have needed it in those windswept conditions!
