1220 – Whakapapa in Peril!
Mount Ruapehu's at it again. Another small eruption last night, a little bit of derring do from the rescue teams, and now a ski industry in full damage control mode. At twenty past 12 I hope to be speaking with someone from the Whakapapa Ski Field operation about how safe their ski field is, and what this means for what's already been a pretty lackluster year for North Island skiing.
1240 – Jay Bennie, Gay NZ
National Deputy leader Bill English is in a spot of bother after the website Gaynz.com made allegations that his son had been posting anti-gay vitriol on popular social networking site Bebo. Comments like "fags are gonna get stabbed with katanas" seem to speak for themselves, but English and his Boss John Key are calling the allegations despicable and politically motivated. Is this valid news reporting? Jay Bennie from Gaynz.com who broke the story will be on the line at 1240 to argue his side.
1300 – Meteria Turei, Green Party Health Spokesperson
1305 – Peter Brown, NZ First Transport Spokesperson
In the eyes of the law you might be able to get away with a sneaky toke before driving down to the star mart for a twix right now, but if the government has it's way, drivers impaired by illegal drugs will face the same punishment as those who've been drinking. And what's more, they want to be able to charge those caught with a drug offense under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Ah, but! They're struggling to get parliamentary support for the move. The Greens want assurance that those busted won't be tried for a drugs offense, a stance NZ First says amounts to a back door attempt to decriminalise the weed. At one Green MP Meteria Turei will be on the line, followed immediately by Peter Brown from NZ First.
1320 – Counterclockwise
Kevin List from Scoop media will be joining me for counterclockwise at twenty past one. It's the hundredth anniversary of Dominion Day today which I'm sure is cause for much excitement. Kevin says he's just been down for a poke around parliament so will also report on any and all gossip there.
1340 – Sensei Dewi
And to finish the show I'll be speaking with Dewi, an English teacher currently employed by English School behemoth NOVA in Japan. They've recently announced the impending closure of about a third of all their schools, are struggling to even pay a bunch of their staff and most worryingly are still actively recruiting for teachers in this part of the world. Dewi will let us know how bad the situation really is...
