The Wednesday Wire with Paul Deady

1230 – Russell Norman, co-leader Green Party The managers of New Zealand's superannuation stash of cash have announced they're going to dump all their shares in tobacco companies. Sucks to be a tobacco company. But while the news is being welcomed by many groups, there's still the nuclear elephant in the room. Yes, large chunks of the $13.1 billion in assets held to help pay for yours and my retirement are still being invested in nasties like nuclear and cluster bomb weapon manufacture. At half past 12, co-leader of the Green Party Dr Russell Norman will be on the line to press the case for these shares to receive the heave-ho.

1250 – Paul Buchanan At ten to one, regular Wire correspondent and former Pentagon staffer Paul Buchanan will join me to discuss the latest round of saber rattling coming from the White House towards Iran. Did someone say World War 3? Ah yes, that was the US President. Paul will also be weighing in on the terror back home – he's worried we're setting up Guantanamo on the Pacific.

1315 – Counterclockwise Kevin List from scoop will be on the line at quarter past one for counterclockwise. Today he'll give us the skinny on Steve Maharey's exit from the Beehive, and look at how Helen Clarke can shuffle the pack for the next election.

1340 – John Pfahlert, CEO Petroleum Exploration and Production Assoc. of NZ (PEPANZ)

And to finish the show at twenty to 2, I'll play an inteview I did this morning with John Pfahlert from (above). A German group called Energy Watch yesterday released an alarming report which concluded that peak oil has already been and gone, that oil production will decrease by half in the next 20 years or so, and that the economic consequences of this could lead to a melt-down of society. Unsurprisingly, Mr Pfahlert wasn't too worried.

Aucklanders can tune in at 95 on the FM dial.
