"Terror" Accused Bailed & Name Suppression Lifted

One "Terror" Accused Bailed & Name Suppression Lifted

Reported by Joseph Barratt from Auckland District Court

Rangikaiwhiria Kemara, 38, of Maurewa was bailed this morning in Auckland District Court. A suppression order remains in place in relation to his image. Kemara who faces arms charges appeared only momentarily and bail was not opposed.

Yesterday the Solicitor General announced he would not allow Terrorism Suppression Act charges to proceed against Kemara and 11 other accused all of whom continue to face arms charges.

Kemara's name suppression was lifted this morning. Previously he and a fellow co-accused from Manurewa, 59, appealed name suppression up to the High Court.

Kemara's bail conditions include: a 10pm to 6am curfew, a requirement to report to police Monday and Thursday, a prohibition not to associate with his co-accused and to go to Ruatoki.

Bail hearings are expected this afternoon in the Auckland High Court for Omar Hamed, Valerie Morse, Emily Bailey and a 23-year-old Swiss National from Wellington who presently has name suppression.

Further bail hearings may take place in the District Court this morning but there is considerable confusion about who is appearing and when.

Five further accused - beyond those listed above - remain in custody as of this morning these include: Tame Iti and his Nephew Rawiri Iti, another Ruatoki man with name suppression, Jamie Beattie Lockett and a Manurewa man aged 59.
