12:20Yellow Peril, indeed
It's fortuitous
timing indeed. Just a week after NZ First's Peter Brown
released his inflammatory press release decrying the number
of Asians in the country, the Asia New Zealand foundation
has put out a report about exactly that. It looks at the
impact of Asian immigration in Auckland, and pretty much
disproves all of Mr Brown claims. I'll be talking to the
report's author Ward Friesen, from the University of
Auckland's School of Geography.
12:40Under the covers of
the FTA
Keith Rankin from Unitec's Business School looks
beneath all the pomp and circumstance that's surrounded NZ's
FTA with China. He has some interesting analysis on how it
will impact our agricultural sector, and questions why the
government is so keen to inject $200m into the economy when
it's currently busy trying to curb spending.
1:00The Gulag
Orkestar
Finally, a chance to play my interview with
Beirut's Jon Natchez and Kelly Pratt! We spoke during WOMAD
a few weeks back, where they attempted to explain why their
ramshackle gypsy music has been so phenomenally popular, and
talked about what it's like working with Zach
Condon.
1:20The Arts Hole
Ash talks to Nova Paul about
her short film Pink and White Terraces, a creative treatment
of seemingly ordinary scenes of domestic life with family
and friends.
1:40The Green Desk
Given the current
debate surrounding the sustainability and ethical value of
biofuels, Simon Miller speaks to a home-based biofuel
producer about the viability of his methods.
