transcript of interview below:

Phil Goff: Ah I don't know, that's a decision that is made by Caucus and it is a decision that I ...
OD: is it an ambition to become Prime Minister of this country?
PG: It is not an overwhelming ambition, I like the job I do. I've done it for the best part of 25 years, that's been a very long sentence that one. Ah If I felt that I was the best person in that position and that Helen had stood aside voluntarily ...
OD: If Helen Clark goes, would you be the best person in that position?
PG: Well, well I don't know yet. I don't know who is going to put their hand up. And I haven't thought, and I'm not thinking in a defeatist way about the next election. Sure there's a prospect that we might lose the election, there's also a good chance that when people look at substance, look at leadership, then Helen Clark is head and shoulders above John Key, you know that you've interviewed both of them in this very studio. Ah I'm not writing that off, and I'm not thinking in a defeatist way and I'm not thinking ahead of time about what I might want to do in the future I'm thinking about the job I'm doing now and trying to do that job as best I can.
OD: Spoken like a true Prime Minister
