12:30 Working for
Welfare
The National Party released its welfare
policy yesterday, in which it requires sickness
beneficiaries and those on the DPB whose children are over 6
years old to work at least 15 hours per week. John Key says
it's not a "work-for-the-dole" scheme – so what is it? We
speak with welfare spokesperson Judith Collins about this,
and other aspects of the policy.
12:40 Think of
the children
Child Poverty Action Group spokesperson
Susan St John will offer a response to Judith Collins. The
advocates say the welfare policy harks back to National's
failed schemes of the late nineties, and will not do
anything to alleviate poverty.
1:00 True
West
True West is the story of two brothers with a
bad case of sibling rivalry. Written by American playwright
Sam Shepard in the late seventies, the lead roles have been
filled by actors including Gary Sinise, Philip Seymour
Hoffman, and John Malkovich. It's on stage at the Tapac
Theatre in Western Springs starting tomorrow, and director
Paul Gitlins and actor Jim McLarty will be in studio to talk
about bringing the western to the stage.

Cutting the Apron Strings
New Zealand feature film
Apron Strings opened the New Zealand Film Festival last
month to positive reviews. For those who missed the chance
to see it then, the multi-cultural, multi-issue drama set in
Otahuhu hits Rialto screens on Thursday. Producer Rachel
Gardner talks about the talented team behind the
film.
1:30 The Green Desk
The 1080 poison
controversy has been raging for some time now, most recently
down in Waimea, on the South Island's west coast. The last
drop in the area took place last week, but the tensions
remain. Simon Miller speaks to two groups - Lloyd Hanson, an
anti-1080 campaigner from the Environmentally Safe Pest
Control group, and Nick Hancox, communications director of
the Animal Health Board.
