Wellington lifts the lid for Child Cancer

Photo Essay: Wellington lifts the lid for Child Cancer

by Ngaruna Kapinga

Crowds gathered across the country yesterday in support of FunRazor - the mass lid-shaving exhibition to raise money for the Child Cancer Foundation.

The Beat Girls kicked off the afternoon’s events in Wellington, delivering a number of tunes to get those dancing feet tapping.

Before the big shave got underway members of the Milne family, who recently lost Kyah Milne to cancer last month, released balloons into the air in remembrance of all the angels that NZ has lost to cancer. Kyah’s battle against cancer was documented by mother Shanell in an online blog which drew an enormous amount of public support.

A the first group of volunteers were several members of the Milne Family and staff from the Child Cancer Foundation. The deed itself was carried out by a talented Team of stylists from Get Funked hair design.

6 year old Maya was inspired by the family dog’s new hairdo to shave her head also – and through her efforts Maya raised over $700 to go towards CCF.

For some the lid shave was in support of friends and family for others it was a spur of the moment decision and what better way to spend the afternoon than raising money for a worthy cause such as this.
