In a fresh approach to taking New Zealand to the World tourism market, Tourism New Zealand has set out on a road trip seeking out international tourists from all corners of the country and capturing their faces on what is best described as a video postcard.

Coming off the back of the highly successful “What do you say UK” campaign launched in September 08, the “Have Your Say” mobile studio is the second phase in Tourism NZ’s strategy to draw travelers to NZ. Kicked off in Auckland by Tourism Minister and PM, John Key last December the mobile unit worked its way north before heading down the East Coast of the island to Wellington on what will be a 108 day journey around New Zealand.
Parked on the steps of Parliament here in Wellington the “Have Your Say” studio is something of a draw card in itself distinguished by a giant sized Tui’s nest hanging off the back of a truck. Behind the nest however is a cleverly disguised studio and editing unit.

Just like a standard postcard – only much faster - participants are encouraged to send a message home to family, friends and loved ones about their NZ travel experience via video. Tourism NZ have tapped into the social networking empire using You Tube as a host domain for over 500 videos that have attracted in excess of 30,000 views worldwide. There are no limits with regard to length or language, with a number of videos already on the site, produced in foreign tongues. Typically taking around 30 minutes to produce you have the option of adding a few holiday snaps and also an upload to your Facebook profile before your video postcard is beamed to the World.

From town to town i-SITES and tourism agencies have jumped on board the campaign providing local support and assisting with rallying would-be stars. Here in Wellington you could even have a cartoon portrait done while you wait for the end product.
