Pakistan: What else remains now...

What else remains now...

In context of attack on Sri Lankan Players

By Syed Atiq ul Hassan, Sydney, Australia

What else didn’t happen when terrorist attacked Sri Lankan players travelling to the stadium in a bus in Lahore, perhaps, the terrorists did not hit the bus by rockets and blow up into pieces? Obviously, it was possible as the images of rocket launchers and heavy ammunition terrorists had as showed by the media. How much atrocious the incident is for Pakistan one cannot really define in words. This disgraceful and frightening incident proves that the entire country is on the mercy of terrorists. No city and citizen of Pakistan is out of the range of terrorists.

Event by Event and moment by moment the terrorists are building the control in Pakistan. They are looking more and more powerful. On the other hand, the Pakistani army and the law enforcement agencies are terribly finding themselves incapable of defeating terrorists.

The entire Pakistani nation is in tears and dismayed. Common and peaceful people find nowhere to go. If the terrorists break the security provided to Sri Lankan players for which the government was claiming like a security of head of state, then whose life is safe in Pakistan.

Bomb blast and killings became everyday news item. And now the attack on foreign players has proved that these killers have no rule of the game. They just want to change the entire country into a war zone.

The situation in Pakistan is now at the brink of a guerrilla war between the Taliban, Al-Quaeda and the Pakistani forces. These bloodiest incidents in the major cities of Pakistan indicate that these insurgents (members of Taliban and Al Quaeda) want to control over entire Pakistan. The Pakistani government and the army have already surrendered against them in the part of Northern Province (FATA) of Pakistan. Using the name of Sharia (Islamic laws), these terrorists (Taliban) forcibly bowed down Pakistani law enforcement agencies. They want to run Pakistan under their kind of Islamic laws. There are news that these Taliban spreading their network and mechanism in Karachi – the largest commercial sea port city of Pakistan. They had attacks in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi and Lahore – almost all the major cities of Pakistan. Therefore, Taliban’s intentions are very clear. They want to control the entire Pakistan.

On the other hand, the politicians in power and in opposition are bad news for the country and the nation. These politicians have no sign of sincerity to the country and the nation. Their only agenda is how to gain power in the capital. It has been only a year since a new civil has been established in Pakistan, yet, major ruling party (PPP) wants to remains in power at any cost and the opposition parties now bringing people again on the roads to launch campaign against the rulers. No one is bothering about the appalling conditions of the country.

The President of Pakistan and the leader of ruling Pakistan People Party, Asif Ali Zardari and his buddies, who were talking about the supremacy of constitution and demolition of Musharraf’s changes in the constitution till yesterday, today, are ruling the country cashing the same constitutional powers. The power-greedy nature of so-called warden of Pakistan demonstrates that they have no fear of Pakistan’s future. Are they repeating the history; it was their elders and leaders who divided the country in 1971 just to be in power even for the half of it. No wonder they will sell the remaining Pakistan to retain the control of part of it now.

The two times prime minister and leader of Pakistan Muslim League (N), Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shahbaz Sharif who have invested billions of dollars in making their business empire outside Pakistan have no interest in thinking about where does the country stands at present. Nawaz brothers’ only interest is to get the power of the country again. While the country is approaching on the brink they are planning long marches against the ruling party whom they stood shoulder to shoulder, calling each other brothers, just few months ago. What a shameful acts of greediness.

One retired chief justice, Iftekhar Choudhry, is also in line to regain his power of justice system on the cost of agitation, demonstrations and civil disturbance. He was the Chief Justice of the highest court of Pakistan. He claims to make the justice system supreme in Pakistan and what he is doing? He is leading the demonstrations, provoking people to come on the roads and agitating lawyers to break the civil laws. He is showing no sense that any system in Pakistan can only be implemented if Pakistan remain exists.

Pakistan is in total mess. The Superpowers, neighbouring countries and even Pakistan’s friends are losing trust on Pakistan. The country has dangerous threats from West and East borders. Army is in difficult situation. Economy is nearly collapsing. Today, the government is begging to every country from where they could get some monetary aid to run the government. The country’s heads of state are ready to take any kind of dictation, right or wrong, from the Western capitals so that they can run the government as they find no option to survive.
The entire nation is in the state of chaos. The element of uncertainty about Pakistan has continuously been increasing among the people of Pakistan. And there is no one out there whom the nation can trust. The thoughts of provincialism on the name of rights, created by political thugs, are creating the ideas of disintegration of Pakistan. The people of Pakistan, are now openly, talking about four or five pieces of Pakistan. Even the national leaders’ of national parties think and behave like Sindhi, Punjabi, Pakhtoon, Balochi and Muhajir and the nation is also divided on the same lines.

Who can show the guts to unite the nation? Who can stand-up and deal with the situation with courage and sincerity? Who can unite the nation to defeat the terrorists, fanatics and the enemies of State? Who can provide the safety to the people and secure the borders. Regrettably, I have to say that Pakistan, in its present status, does not suit any kind of democracy run by these most corrupt and incapable political pundits and tribal leaders.

In these circumstances, I cannot see any other way to save Pakistan except to have a bloody revolution. Yes, bloody operation by someone, like Imam Khomeni of Iran, who can eliminate the tribal culture, religious fanaticism and corrupt bureaucracy from Pakistan. Pakistan needs a mass clean up of all these crooked politicians, corrupt generals, tribal leaders, landlords and religious fanatics. (The writer is Sydney-based journalist and media analyst).
